From Flat Pattern to Finished Assembly: Sheet Metal Fabrications That Ship Ready-to-Install

Despite the modern trend of lean manufacturing and supply chain optimization, many customers still piece together their manufacturing needs via multiple vendors. It’s not uncommon to contract one shop for precision metal cutting and forming, a separate shop for welding, and potentially yet another third-party for finishing, final assembly, etc.

As you can probably imagine, juggling different subcontractors like that raises your risk of scheduling conflicts, other logistical headaches, or even issues with product quality / compatibility between shops.

At Lock-Ridge Tool, we offer a more efficient, effective, and reliable approach to integrated manufacturing services. Our end-to-end fabrication and assembly capabilities streamline your project, giving you a single point of contact and accountability.

In-House American Manufacturing Solutions Since 1962

More than six decades of building quality U.S.A.-made products has shown us that controlling as much of the production process in-house yields superior results in precision, consistency, and cost-efficiency, while simultaneously minimizing lead times and logistical hurdles for our customers.

We want to offer you the easiest path from initial concept or design to fully finished end product – from custom flat pattern to precision cut and formed final assembly. When you partner with us, you get:

One Workflow, One Manufacturing Partner

Every handoff between vendors introduces risk: miscommunication, mismatched tolerances, delays, shipping damage, rework. We collaborate with customers from the start in flat pattern development, following through with CNC cutting, forming, machining, etc., then finishing up with any required welding, finishing, sub-assembly processes.

By carefully controlling these processes under one roof, Lock-Ridge Tool minimizes handoffs and the potential to introduce risk. You have one interface, one schedule, one quality system.

Consistent Quality and Accountability

With full control of the processes, we can hold consistent tolerances from the flat pattern stage all the way through to final welds, fasteners, and functional testing. Should we run into any quality issues, there’s no passing the blame: we own the entire chain. Crucially, that means if any part doesn’t meet spec, we trace the issue back and correct it at the source without delay.

Faster Turnaround with Less Logistical Overhead

No need to ship parts off to third parties or coordinate pick-ups. Having everything in one facility shrinks lead times, cuts transport costs, and reduces inventory risk. Your schedule is our schedule, and we work hard to maintain it.

End-to-End Manufacturing: From Metal Blank to Fully Built Part or Assembly

Flat Pattern Engineering and Nesting

The process begins with your 2D designs or 3D models. Our engineering team refines or develops flat patterns, applies features (like hole patterns, reliefs, tabs, etc.), and nests those patterns efficiently for minimal material waste. We optimize for your part quantity, sheet material size, and geometry constraints.

CNC Machining, Laser, and Plasma Cutting

Our shop employs a full suite of modern CNC cutting systems to precisely execute the flat patterns. Whether your custom sheet metal parts demand fine detail laser cutting or turret punching, we select the appropriate process and program the optimal toolpaths to ensure uncompromising quality and repeatability. Our integration of CNC milling, turning further expands our production possibilities.

Precision Bending and Forming

After blanking, your parts typically go to our press brakes and forming stations. Our operators and tooling engineers manage bend allowances, springback compensation, and tool design. Complex features such as compound bends, acute angles, hems, box flanges are easily executed via Lock-Ridge Tool’s agile in-house processes.

Custom Fixture Design for Precision Fabrication

We create dedicated or general-purpose tooling and fixtures for workpiece holding, welding, or assembly processes. Because we’re doing all operations internally, these fixtures can serve multiple stages: alignment jigs, weld fixtures, assembly holding, etc. It’s one of the many advantages to keeping the process lean and in-house.

Welding and Structural Assemblies

Our skilled welders (including MIG, TIG, laser, and robotic welding solutions) fabricate frames, structural supports, enclosures, brackets, and more. With control over all fixturing and welding sequences our process mitigate distortion and warpage. We also integrate additional hardware such as studs, bosses, spot welds, and inserts as needed.

Sub-Assembly, Final Assembly, and Testing

Our turnkey assembly solutions incorporate subcomponents such as brackets, hinges, shock mounts, wiring harnesses, and fasteners, delivering your system in ready-to-install form. We can also perform functional tests, QA checks, and any calibration before shipping. With Lock-Ridge Tool, you can trust that your products are truly finished with precision and assembled ready to perform.
